About Farmanguinhos
The Institute of Drug Technology (Farmanguinhos) is a public organization of indirect administration and integrates the technical-scientific complex of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), linked to the Ministry of Health (MS).
Currently, it occupies strategic position as official pharmaceutical laboratory linked to MS, with installed capacity of production of more than 6.5 billion units of medicines. Farmanguinhos is responsible for generating 13% of the total gross revenue of the Fiocruz Complex and represents 9% of the Foundation's workforce.
With production capacity of about 50 different types of drugs, the unit manufactures antibiotics, anti-inflammatory, anti-infective, anti-ulcer, analgesic, for endemic diseases such as malaria and tuberculosis, antiretrovirals for treatment of AIDS and viral hepatitis. It also produces those for the cardiovascular system and the Central Nervous System.
